Local Dallas Florist // The Backyard Bouquet

"The earth dances in flowers." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

To say I was excited to shoot with Lauren, from The Backyard Bouquet is an understatement. There's something about flowers that transports me back in time to being a barefoot little girl without a care in the world. So when I had the opportunity to photograph a floral themed shoot, the little girl inside me was leaping.

Lauren's generous friend offered to have our shoot at her beautiful home, nestled in Highland Park. We chose to shoot in the sun room which was opened, airy and perfect. A huge thank you to her for welcoming us and making us feel so comfortable.

When I arrived, I was thrilled to see Lauren's mom and daughter with her. It was so beautiful watching Lila help her mom pick out the flowers and smell each one...

Lila was so cute using her mom's clippers. I could tell she wanted to be just like her.

Love this sweet moment between Lauren and her daughter. It reminds me to remember to take time to stop and smell the roses...

I was absolutely mesmerized watching Lauren work. She made everything look so effortless, like a graceful dance.

Her focus and gentleness with each stem worked together to create gorgeous bouquets.

One of the many things I love about The Backyard Bouquet is they source locally grown florals in the Dallas, Texas area.

The Backyard Bouquet also releases a 'Bouquet of the Week', which cuts down waste and a makes they're high-end bouquets amazingly affordable. This was one of my favorites... A bouquet filled with peonies, rice flower, dahlias, wild sweet peas & more.

Wrapped around each bouquet was this light lavender color ribbon, specially ordered by The Backyard Bouquet. I could tell each detail was carefully selected by Lauren to make her bouquets unique and clients feel special.

By the end of the shoot, it was evident that Lauren was not simply a florist, but a Floral Artist. Her work is stunning, but more importantly, who she is outshines.

Lauren, it was such a pleasure working with you and meeting your family. I admire that you know who you are and stay true to yourself. Your talent surpasses and your humility sets you apart. I look forward to working with you again soon!

Sincerely,
Leah

ps. Thank you for my beautiful bouquet. I followed the directions on the back of your business card and it brightened up my kitchen for almost two weeks!

Rush Patisserie

If I could go anywhere in the world it would be Western Europe. Specifically France, Italy, Greece & Spain. I just love the easy-going atmosphere and the untouched picturesque beauty of the culture. I've always been a fan of classic style with modern influence and a self-proclaimed foodie. So when I find a place that has authentic roots in any of these areas, I get so excited about it!

I felt like I walked into a tiny corner pastry shop in Paris, France. The owner, Samantha Rush was working behind the counter and she shared her love for cooking, pastry, her hometown in New York, and schooling abroad at Le Cordon Blue in Paris. From one small business owner to another, she shared advice about being true to yourself, always take pride in what you do, and slow and steady wins the race. I could have sat and talked with her for hours. I left with a box full of pretty pastries and a side order of wisdom. Au Revoir!

One Frame

I came across these beautiful Nopales the other day while location scouting. I just think cacti are so pretty and photograph well. My husband told me they taste good, but I haven't had the courage to try yet. I'm a texture person. Chances are if it's mushy, I probably won't enjoy it too much. I think I'll stick to taking pictures of them and leave the eating to him. Hope everyone had a happy Cinco de Mayo! Ole!
